Atlas Anchor was tasked with doing pull testing to 10,000 pounds on ¾” Dewalt wedge bolt anchors at the digester tanks at the Wilmington Wastewater Treatment Facility. The reason for the testing was to determine if the anchors would support the design load + 3X safety factor in the 60-year-old concrete that was deteriorated due to long term calcium exposure. The performance of the anchors was crucial because they would be supporting a working platform system that would surround the whole digester for the personnel to demolish the first two feet of the concrete and rebar and then pour install new rebar and pour new concrete. We had to create a custom anchor attachment that would sustain the test load and work with the screw bolt anchor. The pull testing revealed that the anchors met the requirements needs to ensure the platform would be safe for the personnel to work on.
