Description
We were hired by the consulting engineer who was representing the NYC Parks department. The sea wall deck at Faber Park was built over 100 years ago on wood piles. Over the course of the century the piles have eroded causing the sea wall to slope. The sea wall was closed in 2023 for repairs. The first phase of the repair was a probing process to see the compressive strength of the concrete deck. The consulting engineer determined that a pull test on the seawall to 10 kips (10,000 pounds) was needed on ¾” by 24” embedment epoxy anchors. Due to the anchors having to be installed on the seawall from the water in the busiest shipping channel of NYC this was no easy task. We built a floating work platform to do our installation and testing from. We then had to work around the 5’ tidal change because the anchors had to be installed and tested 12” from the top of the seawall. Over the course of two days, we successfully installed and tested the anchor bolts. The testing was done in accordance with ASTM E488.
