Description

We worked on this project multiple times for the restoration contractor. We conducted pull testing to 3,000 pounds on 5/8” galvanized eye bolts with Dewalt epoxy that were installed in the brick bulk head on the roof. These eye bolts were designed to be the tie back points for the cabling system of a supported scaffold system. The NYC Department of Buildings requires post installed anchors to be pull tested in accordance with bulletin 2016-005. Additionally, since these anchors involve life safety on an ongoing project, they NYC DOB requires the contractor to pull test them annually to verify that they can still support the load required of them. During our testing we encountered failures on the anchors and determined the cause to be that the brick bulkhead had hollow voids that prevented the Dewalt epoxy from encapsulating the anchor bolt. We informed the contractor that Dewalt nylon screen tubes were needed in order to keep the epoxy into the hole. We always carry all sizes of screen tubes for this very situation and were able to install new anchors with the contractor. We then tested them to the load required. Our preparedness saved the contractor from losing time and got their anchors certified on schedule so they could begin working.
