Description
We were hired by the general contractor to do ASTM C1583 testing on the roof deck of the Jane Hotel. The purpose of the testing was determining which type of concrete (poured concrete or a Silka bag mix) would bond better to the existing concrete slab that was poured in 1908. If both types of concrete performed the same then the contractor wanted to use the poured method because the labor involved to bring the Silka bag mix up to the through the building. ASTM C1583 tests the bond strength between a new and existing slab and the testing results provide the tensile strength of the bond. We were able to determine that the poured concrete actually performed better than the Silka bag mix.
