Description

We were hired by the apartment owner who was referred to us by the NYC DOB special inspection agency that was overseeing their apartment renovation. We were tasked with verifying that the structural anchors that the renovation contractors wanted to use for the M.E.P and ceilings would be strong enough for their applications in the 100-year ash and cinder concrete ceilings. This type of concrete in NYC is known as cinder-crete and ash-crete and was a very common building material used in the roaring 20’s of NYC up until around WW2. It has a very compressive strength and almost turns into sand once drilled into.
